Monitoring deformation of the inner walls of a tunnel in Chongqing, China, 2019
The FangDouShan tunnel is located in Chongqing, China and has 7300 meters length. It is one of the longest tunnels in Southwest China.
We divided the whole tunnel into more than 40 monitoring sections. The distance between the two adjacent sections is several hundred meters. We fixed three laser sensors on different positions in each section. The laser directed to different monitoring points of the inner walls of the tunnel. If the walls have a deformation by gravity or earthquake, etc. then the distance between the wall and the sensor will be changed. The sensors sampled such distance changes in real-time and return the data to the control host computer. If the deformation exceeds a certain warning value, the control system will trigger an alarm.
